what kind of trees are they?
The cherry blossom trees at the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C., are predominantly Yoshino cherry trees, known for their delicate, pale pink to white blossoms. These trees were gifted to the United States by Japan in 1912 as a symbol of friendship. In addition to Yoshinos, there are also Kwanzan cherry trees, which bloom slightly later and have vibrant, deep pink, double-layered flowers. Together, these varieties create the iconic and breathtaking spring display that draws visitors from around the world.
